Four apartment blocks on a prestigious development on a historic London
site are to be fitted with simple but highly efficient naturally vented
smoke chimneys to protect their common lobbies.
Smoke Control
Services is supplying its LABC-approved UniVent system for the blocks
of studios, one, two and three bedroom apartments and penthouses on the
former RAF Hendon Aerodrome site in Colindale.
The old
airfield is being developed by St George Central London as Beaufort
Park, a 25-acre mixed use development of apartments together with
85,000 sq ft of commercial opportunities, including restaurant, retail,
crèche and offices.
UniVent, Smoke Control Services’
best-selling ventilation system, is simple to install in almost any
modern apartment block development. It is designed to work “out of the
box”, with no bespoke design or on-site programming required. All the
components needed are included – stair, lobby and discharge vents,
back-up battery control boxes, smoke detectors, manual overrides,
wiring, and instruction manual.
UniVent works by natural
convection; on detection of smoke, lobby vents fixed in the internal
chimney and a discharge vent at the top open automatically, allowing
smoke to vent into the chimney.
