Smoke Control Services is to install its 200th UniVent natural
ventilation system in a residential apartment block being developed on
the site of a former primary school in South West London.
The
six-shaft system will be installed at Effra Parade, Brixton, a
129-apartment timber-frames residential block being built by Bellway
South East.
UniVent, Smoke Control Services’ best-selling
ventilation system, is simple to install in almost any modern apartment
block development. It is designed to work “out of the box”, with no
bespoke design, complex wiring or on-site programming required. All the
components needed are included – lobby and discharge vents, control
boxes and wiring, back-up battery and instruction manual.
It
works by natural convection; on detection of smoke, lobby vents fixed
in the internal chimney and a discharge vent at the top open
automatically, allowing smoke to vent into the chimney.
Smoke
Control Services managing director Allan Meek said that to have reached
sales of 200 units since the system was introduced in 2003 showed how
developers had taken to UniVent’s simplicity.
“Too many smoke
ventilation systems these days are over-engineered and sold into
harassed and unsuspecting developers and contractors in a hail of
impressive sounding technical data,” he said.
“But the reality
is that for the majority of modern apartment complexes, the very
straightforward solution that UniVent offers is more than fit for
purpose – 200 satisfied customers can’t be wrong!”
