Smoke Control Services (SCS)has won the Specialist Award 2008 in Fire Protection.
The judges commented:
"SCS is committed to energy efficiency and in 2006 launched the Easivent range of natural ventilation products. It was appointed
to install its UniVent system in all seven residential apartment blocks
of the Bryant Homes Victoria Wharf development in Cardiff Bay. Kevin Hibbs, regional design manager for Taylor Woodrow Construction,
said: “This is the first, possibly the only Type Approved naturally
ventilated smoke management system in the UK. It has been developed by
working collaboratively and is due in part to the excellent
relationship we have with SCS.”
In its latest venture, the company has entered a long-term partnership with Swansea University to develop a smoke extract system for tall buildings, which uses modelling techniques to maintain safe conditions within the building.
SCS lists five reasons for its success: technical support, free technical seminars for customers, partnering discounts, ongoing maintenance and guides to new regulations. The judges praised its clear commitment to the welfare and development of staff, in addition to its good approach to customer satisfaction, research and development and the community. They also praised its approach to safety. SCS’s record speaks for itself – no reportable accidents in 15 years of trading.
