Second LABC approval

Second LABC approval SECOND LABC APPROVAL FOR SMOKE CONTROL SERVICES

A ventilation system for covered car parks developed by a leading smoke control company has become the first of its kind to receive nationwide LABC approval.

Smoke Control Services’ uniJet system has become the company’s second product range to have been issued with the certification, which means the process of obtaining building control approval for any development incorporating it will be speeded up.

The company, which provides guidance all aspects of environmental ventilation and smoke control and has particular experience in installations for apartment blocks, also gained LABC approval less than a year ago for its uniVent smoke relief chimney system.

uniJet has been designed to be space efficient and energy saving. It uses tunnel ventilation technology to eliminate the need for costly and bulky sheet metal ductwork, and incorporates CO detection to enable the system to run at low speed when then pollutant load is low.

Smoke Control Services managing director Allan Meek said the company concentrated on offering straightforward, simple design-and-install solutions for smoke control systems for all types of buildings.

“We’ve built up a lot of experience in the area of smoke control, and the uniJet product is a classic example of our “keep it simple, make it effective” thinking,” he said.

“We’re extremely pleased to be leading the field in systems designed for use in car parks by getting the LABC approval, particularly as it comes so soon after the same seal of approval for uniVent.”
