Smoke Control Services has won its fourth contract on one of Bellway
Homes’ biggest apartment block developments in the north-east.
One
of its ventilation systems will be installed in a fourth block of the
663-unit, 11-block Ochre Yards apartment scheme being developed in
Gateshead on the site of a former railway works depot.
The
company has already installed smoke ventilation systems to the common
areas of three of the blocks in the development, and carpark extraction
systems for two of them, in a contract worth £250K to date.
Smoke
Control Services was nominated by Bellway Homes to work to their
electrical contractor on the project, Simpson & Gregg Ltd.
The
company, which aims to share its experience and develop long-term
relationships with its clients, worked with architects P&HS to
produce a working design for the systems on two of the blocks to allow
extended travel distance in the corridors.
Work started on the
development, off Rabbit Bank Road, Gateshead, in September 2002 and is
expected to be completed by 2012. Three of the eventual 11 apartment
blocks on the site - which has river views and looks back towards the
Newcastle cityscape - have now been completed, with a further three in
various stages of completion.
Paul Hebden of Bellway Homes
said the company chose to go with Smoke Control Services because of the
existing well-established working relationship.
“Smoke Control
Services offers good levels of theoretical as well as practical
experience,” he said. “They were competitive and seem to work well in
partnership with us, which helps us to achieve our aims.”
